
ASU graduates more BSN and advanced practice nurses, is the only university in Arizona offering a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing & Healthcare Innovation (PhD) degree, and the first university in the nation to offer a Master of Healthcare Innovation. The new Doctor of Nursing Practice degree is being offered in an online hybrid format designed for students living or working at a distance. For the fourth consecutive time, ASU's College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation was ranked as one of America's best graduate schools by U.S.News & World Report. One of the reasons the college is ranked so highly is because nursing majors have the opportunity to get real-life experiences at hundres of clinical agencies that have affiliations with the college.

Graduate Nursing Degrees:
- Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is focused on improving healthcare through facilitating a culture of best practice, and providing the additional skills necessary to develop advance practice nursing leaders for the future. Advanced practice preparation is available in a variety of nurse practitioner roles including Adult NP, Pediatric NP, Neonatal NP, Women’s Health NP, Family NP, Psychiatric Mental Health NP, and Child/Family Psychiatric Mental Health NP. Emphasis is placed on preparing advanced practice evidence-based mentors to assume faculty positions and positions in leadership. Three entry pathways are available for this new degree (differences between DNP and PhD).
- Master of Healthcare Innovation (MHI) program is designed to be a one year masters degree program using a hybrid online format open to nursing and non-nursing students working and living at a distance. MHI offers a futuristic, multidisciplinary, educational approach to the development of healthcare leaders who base decisions upon the best evidence available. Students accepted into this program will learn new processes to develop innovative, immediate solutions to existing or potential healthcare problems in both traditional and non-traditional healthcare organizations.
- Master of Science, (MS) prepares nurses for more independent roles as community leaders and educators. MS Degrees are available for Nurse Educator and Community Health.
- PhD in Nursing & Healthcare Innovation (PhD) is designed for those who wish to pursue careers as leaders in health policy, nursing education and research. This degree helps address a state and national need for faculty members who are increasingly in short supply (differences between DNP and PhD). Two entry pathways are available for this degree: BS-PhD and a MS-PhD.
graduate Certificate Programs:
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health Intervention Specialist - This innovative 15-credit certificate program is designed specifically for pediatric and family nurse practitioners, as well as physicians and other interdisciplinary healthcare providers who desire to enhance their knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of common mental and behavioral health problems in children and adolescents. The new certificate will be predominantly an online distance education program with two 2-day visits to the ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus for orientation and intensive learning. More Information.
- Clinical Research Management Graduate Certificate - This 15-credit online certificate program is designed to educate nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals throughout the nation and internationally to work in the diversified and complex clinical research industry. This specialty takes a multidisciplinary approach in providing an education strong in clinical research business and financial practices; ethical and regulatory aspects of research; and overall management of clinical drug, biological, and medical device trials. The program is designed to be flexible and conducive to the adult learner.
- Community and Public Health Practice Graduate Certificate - This program is directed toward students with a Bachelor of Science degree who currently work in community or public health or other relevant field, who want to solve public health problems and apply a breadth of knowledge and expertise in the community. It is open to both nursing and non-nursing students. The curriculum consists of an online program of study of 16-18 hours of graduate study that may be applied toward the Master of Science degree. - Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing Graduate Certificate - This program is an online graduate certificate program designed to prepare nurse clinicians, educators and other healthcare professionals as experts in evidence-based practice (EBP). This 17 credit hour, 12-month program is user friendly and constructed in a distance learning, online format to facilitate involvement of the participants, no matter where they live. Admission is once a year and classes begin in August. There are two site visits to the campus. More information.
- Nurse Education in Academic and Practice Settings Graduate Certificate - This innovative program, offered mostly online, is for nurses who have at least a bachelor's degree and who are interested in teaching in academic or practice settings. The 14-credit hour program includes courses covering curriculum development, teaching in the classroom or online, developing and evaluating educational programs in clinical and practice settings, and a teaching practicum. This certificate program addresses
a state and national need for qualified nurse educators who are increasingly in short
supply.
