Master prepared nurses who are not prepared or practicing as an advance practice nurse (nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, midwife, or nurse anesthetist), or who want to add an additional specialty may take this entry pathway to the DNP. We currently offer 7 advanced practice specialties which may be added based on availability in the specialty. Additional specialty concentrations, including geriatric nurse practitioner, adult clinical nurse specialist, and acute care clinical nurse specialist are being planned and may be available for the August 2009 start date for this entry option.
Advanced Practice Specialties
The Doctor of Nursing Practice offers seven advanced practice specialties including:
- Advanced Practice Nursing of Adults (Adult Nurse Practitioner)
- Advanced Practice Nursing of Neonate (Neonatal Nurse Practitioner)
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Pediatric Nurse Practioner
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
- Child-Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
- Women's Health Nurse Practitioner

- Students will have an individual review of their transcripts and an individualized program of study designed. This may add up to 1 1/2 years of additional study to complete your specialty.

- Designed for students living or working at a distance this program offers 2-3, 3-4 day visits to campus at the beginning and end of each semester and once in the summer for face to face time with expert faculty and colleagues; the rest of the time the classes use various technology assisted designs (Web, Conference Calls, podcasting) for student meetings.
