As the nation's population ages, the number of older adults requiring mental health services has drastically increased. To address this pressing issue, ASU’s College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation’s Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence Cognitive Aging Core’s vision is that all older adult’s in Arizona and the surrounding Southwestern states will have access to culturally relevant evidence-based mental health care.
We aim to achieve this by focusing on three areas:
- Education
- Research
- Community Collaboration
The goals of the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence Cognitive Aging Core include:
- Increasing the number of geriatric nursing faculty competent to teach the gero-psychiatric nursing.
- Increasing the number of nursing faculty conducting gero-psychiatric nursing research.
- Developing and implementing gerontologic mental health content into the graduate geriatric nursing course work.
- Developing and implementing a 15-credit online gero-psychiatric nursing certificate program for nurses.
- Establishing partnerships with various community agencies involved in gerontologic mental health services and research.
