Baccalaureate Student Nurses' Organization (BSNO)
Student Resources

The Baccalaureate Student Nurses' Organization (BSNO) and the Student Nurses' Association (SNA) are the official professional organizations for nursing students at ASU West.

The purpose of BSNO is:
  • To foster beginning professional values and an understanding of the broader scope of nursing as it relates to individual care, community service and societal need.
  • To serve as a supportive resource and a communication forum to its members.
  • To contribute to nursing education and encourage continuing education to provide the highest quality of healthcare.
The function of BSNO is:
  • To have direct input into standards of nursing education and influence the education process.
  • To influence healthcare, nursing education and practice through legislative activities as appropriate.
  • To promote and encourage participation in community affairs and activities toward healthcare and the resolution of related social issues.
  • To represent nursing students to the consumer, institutions, and other organizations.
  • To promote and encourage students' participation in interdisciplinary activities.
  • To promote and encourage recruitment efforts, participation in student activities, and educational opportunities regardless of a person's race, color, creed, sex, lifestyle, national origin, age, or economic status.
  • To promote and encourage collaborative relationships with the Arizona Nurses' Association (AzNA), the Student Nurses' Association of Arizona (SNAAz) and the National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA).
  • Conduct at least one fund-raiser per academic year to support a charitable organization or community service project.

All nursing students are automatically members of BSNO. Students who are paid members of the National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA) have tri-level membership at the state level and the chapter level. The state level organization for NSNA is Student Nurses' Association of Arizona (SNAAz) and the chapter level is SNA. BSNO and SNA are combined into one organization at ASU West because the number of students do not justify two separate organizations. Officers of BSNO must be members of NSNA.
