As the result of a collaboration between the University of Guanajuato and Arizona State University, four academic staff members from the Nursing and Obstetrics Faculty in León, Mexico and the Human Research Institute were named adjunct faculty.
With adjunct status, the professors from the University of Guanajuato have access to different tools to elevate the quality of teaching and research with direct benefit to all the students within their academic unit.
Dr. Sergio Arias-Negrete, the Director of International Academic Relations (DRAII) of the University of Guanajuato, spoke of how important it is for students and university professors to integrate themselves in global educational and research activities that generate academic cooperation.
During a meeting with professors from the Arizona State University’s College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation and the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Arias-Negrete offered his support in the development of these kinds of academic exchanges.
Likewise, Dr. Carol M. Baldwin, from the College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation at Arizona State University, emphasized the importance of educational institutions globally to associate with each other to develop research and teaching projects with social impact. "This collaboration between institutions is very important, especially in areas that are important for society, such as health sciences," said Dr. Baldwin.
The collaboration between institutions began a year ago during which time the Arizona State University College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation named Dr. Sergio Marquez-Gamiño and Professor Cipriana Caudillo Cisneros, from the Human Research Institute; and Professor Luxana Reynaga Ornelas and Professor Octavio Jimenez-Garza, from the Nursing and Obstetrics Faculty in León as adjunct faculty.
Dr. Marquez-Gamiño explained that adjunct status allows professors from the University of Guanajuato to have access to bibliographies, databases, didactic research results and the opportunity to establish collaborations with professors from Arizona State University and other institutions of higher education worldwide.
The Rector General of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Arturo Lara Lopez and the President of Arizona State University, Dr. Michael M. Crow will sign an institutional agreement in which faculty from various academic disciplines can participate in academic exchanges.
Professor Adriana Perez, Doctoral student at the College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation at Arizona State University was present at this meeting as well.
