First Evercare Scholar Selected at ASU Hartford Center
Diane Nunez, MS, APRN, BC

PHOENIX, January 18, 2008 -- Diane Nuñez, MS, APRN, BC has been selected as the first Hartford Center Evercare Predoctoral Scholar at the ASU College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation. As an Evercare Scholar, Nuñez will establish expertise and leadership in Chronic Disease Disability Prevention and become an active scholar among ASU clinical faculty in geriatric nursing.

The John A. Hartford Foundation of New York awarded a $1 million, five-year grant to the ASU College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation late last year to fund a geriatric nursing center to recruit and retain geriatric nursing educators in the Southwest. The College also received matching funds pledged by several local organizations, including Evercare which pledged funds for scholarships and to assist with the launch of the program.

The objectives of the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at ASU include:

  • educating qualified doctoral and post-doctoral PhD/DNP students with a geriatric focus and commitment to academic careers over the five-year project period;
  • increasing the number of ethnically diverse doctoral-prepared geriatric nursing faculty; and
  • developing and implementing geriatric nursing focused doctoral coursework with two graduate interdisciplinary geriatric nursing courses which provide substantive theory-based content.

The ASU College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation hosts one of the nine Hartford Centers of Geriatric Nursing Excellence in the U.S.
