who should attend

This institute is designed for individuals interested in exploring conceptual and practical knowledge for the development of theory-based interventions.  A "hands on" approach will be offered, to foster individuals' development in their specific areas of interest.  This is the first in a series of workshops and seminars offered by the International Consortium of the Theory-Based Interventions.

WORKSHOP FOCUS

Theory-based interventions are central to addressing the promotion of health and prevention and management of illness, as well as eliminating disparities in health and health care among vulnerable populations.  Attention to the design of theory-based interventions contributes to the development of programmatic research responsive to the needs of various populations, and to the translation of knowledge into practice.

  • Discuss the utility of intervention theory in guiding the implementation and evaluation of interventions.
  • Generate an understanding of the clinical problem requiring intervention.
  • Review elements of problem and intervention theory, including the relationship between the theory of the problem and the theory of the intervention.
  • Identify key ingredients/components of the intervention to address a specific clinical problem.
  • Examine issues related to fidelity to theory in intervention research.
